Get Your Foot in the Door with a Business Letter of Introduction
While business introduction letters are mostly to introduce you and your company to your reader, possibly more importantly they're a first step towards convincing your reader to want to know more about your company.
But, a letter of introduction is usually short. In fact you want to keep between one and one and a half pages because executives are busy people.
So, how do you convince the reader to pick up the phone and order your product or services in just one short page?
Most times quite frankly, you don't. Asking for a sale with your business letter of introduction could be a mistake. It could be asking too much too soon.
The best way to think of it is a start to a relationship with a potential client. Letting them know you're out there, and what you do.
Don't get me wrong. Sometimes business introduction letters are effective on their own. But why not increase your chances of interest by creating a complete direct mail package to go along with that letter of introduction?
All you really need to start with is an introduction letter, a brochure, a business card and an envelope.
Increase Your Sales with Business Referral Letters
It may seem hard to believe, but about 80% of small business' business comes from referrals. And what's more, closing a sale with a referred business is about 60% instead of the 10% rate of closing cold sales.
Why? It has to do with building relationships. If you have a satisfied client, and they refer a business to you, it'll probably be a business your client already has a business relationship with.
So, a relationship means your client already has credibility with the business they're referring to you. Which means you're more likely to get a sale from it.
That's why business referral letters are so important.
Yet small businesses rarely take advantage of a good business referral plan. And I'm not really sure why. It's both easier and more cost-effective to target those you already know.
Business Thank You Letters-- Quite Possibly the Most Powerful Letter You can Write
The power of a thank you letter is often underestimated. Because they are sent so seldom, a business thank you letter almost always leaves a strong impression.
Taking the time to write a business thank you letter to every client at least once a year is a good plan and could result in sales you don't expect.
Your clients will remember it, and just might pick up the phone when they have a job you'll fit without requesting other bids.
Your thank you letter doesn't have to be long. One or two paragraphs will do, and like anything rare, it will possibly be remembered far longer than anything else you send.
And of course, along with your thank you, you could include some type of call to action, even if it's just "We'd be pleased to work with you again in the near future."
But it's your call. Sometimes it's more powerful to say thank you without any sales talk.
